macOS Catalina available for download

A few hours after the release of Apple Arcade on the Golden Master of macOS Catalina, Apple has made available the download of the new operating system to all users. In fact, from late yesterday evening it is finally possible to download macOS 10.15 for installation on laptops and desktops with a bitten apple. But what are the recommendations for the upgrade and, above all, which are the compatible devices?

macOS Catalina is the new operating system for Mac, presented by Apple during the WWDC in June and passed during the summer in a long phase of beta-testing, both for developers and publishers. Now it is finally available for download, although some users may be excluded. MacOS 10.15, in fact, follows roughly the same compatibility requirements as the previous Mojave: laptops and desktops that do not have a Metal-enabled GPUconsequently they will be excluded. Again, Catalina will definitely eliminate support for 32-bit applications.

The update is in fact available for the following models:

  • MacBook 2015 and subsequent;
  • MacBook Air 2012 and subsequent;
  • MacBook Pro 2012 and subsequent;
  • iMac 2012 and subsequent;
  • Mac Mini 2012 and subsequent;
  • iMac Pro 2017 and subsequent;
  • Mac Pro 2013 and subsequent.

Update to Catalina

Upgrading your Mac to the new Catalina MacOS is very simple, however it is good to do a backup safety. Although problems are rare during installation, such as to cause the loss of your files or applications, some hitch can always occur. To make a copy you can use an external drive, also Time Machine enabled, or rely on iCloud.

Saved your files, just go to "Software update”Of System Preferences or, again, on Mac App Store. The download of the installation package is just over 8 GB: once downloaded, just follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. The latter can last a very variable time from device to device, depending on storage space, computing power and other elements, however it should not last more than forty minutes.
