Sony had reduced the number of smartphones to try to improve profits. Now it seems that the Japanese manufacturer intends to expand its market presence again with the launch of four Xperia top of the range and two mid-range models in 2020, all with connectivity 5G. Meanwhile, Sony has announced the eight devices that will receive the update to Android 10.
According to the roadmap, which appeared on a Japanese site, Sony will announce the successors of the current Xperia 1, Xperia XZ2 Compact and Xperia 5. The names provided are Xperia 1.1, Xperia 3 and Xperia 5.1. The three models will probably integrate the Snapdragon 865 processor. Xperia 1.1 it should have a 21: 9 screen with 4K resolution and four rear cameras. Four sensors also for Xperia 5.1, but 2K screen. Both are expected at the Mobile World Congress 2020 in Barcelona. Xperia 3instead, with three rear cameras it could be an exclusive for the Japanese market.
The top model should be Xperia 0, whose debut is scheduled at the IFA 2020 in Berlin. The smartphone should have a 4K screen, Snapdragon 865 processor, 5G modem, 12 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage six rear cameras with sensors from 48, 20, 16, 12, 8 and 0.5 megapixels. 10 and 0.3 megapixel sensors for the two front cameras.
As regards the medium range, the announcement of the MWC 2020 is envisaged Xperia 10.1 is Xperia 9.1, successors to the current Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus. Both will incorporate a 5G modem, probably paired with the Snapdragon 735 processor.
While waiting for the new smartphones, Sony has confirmed that Android 10 will arrive by December on Xperia 1 and Xperia 5. At the beginning of 2020 it will be the turn of Xperia 10, 10 Plus, XZ2, XZ2 Compact, XZ2 Premium and XZ3. The list does not include Xperia XZ1 and the recent Xperia 8.
